Bromeliaceae (Pineapple Family)

RANKS:
G5/S1: demonstrably widespread, abundant, and secure.

RANK REASONS:
Plant is currently ranked Endangered by state (Florida Department of Agriculture) due to the weevil (Metamasius callizona). The weevil is native to southern Mexico and Central America and was detected in Florida in 1989.

LEGAL STATUS:
US--none
FL--Endangered

HABITAT:
Hammocks, cypress domes, and pinelands (Coile, 1998).
