RANK REASONS:

Plant is currently ranked Endangered by state (Florida Department of Agriculture) due to the weevil (Metamasius callizona). The weevil is native to southern Mexico and Central America and was detected in Florida in 1989.

HABITAT:

Hammocks, cypress domes, and pinelands (Coile, 1998).
