FUEL MODEL:

Fuel Model 2 is best fit for modeling fire behavior of this stage.  Fine surface fuels, typically volatile grasses, dominate the fuel matrix of this model (Anderson, 1982).

DESIRED STAGE:

This single stage community is in the condition at which cypress dome communities are to be maintained.

RESTORATION/MANAGEMENT PROTOCOL:

• Restoration Phase:
  • Fuel reduction dormant season fire to eliminate potential for excessive scorching of cypress overstory.
• Maintenance/Management Phase:
  • Avoid any soil disturbing activities or treatments that trench wetland soils and lead to enhanced drainage.
  • Growing to mixed-season prescribed fires.  Moisture conditions allowing fire spread through surface fuels but that avoid ground or soil fuel combustion are desired.
• Special Management Concerns:
  • Soil disturbance as avenue for  exotics and increased drainage.
  • Avoid hydrologic/topographic alteration such as ditching and fire-plow scars.
